With over five decades of experience, A General Group stands as a trusted European leader in delivering independent, brand-agnostic technical solutions for the maritime and industrial sectors. Through its specialized companies, the Group offers comprehensive services spanning repair, reconditioning, supply, and field support.
In this special interview, Mr. Vasilios Chrysopoulos, founder and CEO of A General Group, shares insights with Robban Assafina about the company’s latest developments, strategic direction, and commitment to shaping the future of maritime technical services.
First, what is the latest of A General Group, services and developments?
A General Group continues to expand its international footprint by strengthening its service network and integrating advanced technologies across all business units. Recent developments include the establishment of enhanced technical hubs near major shipyards in Greece, Singapore, Shanghai, Varna, and Rotterdam, as well as the adoption of modern repair and reconditioning technologies such as laser cladding, thermal spray, CNC laser-cut metal fabrication (GET STC), and portable dynamic balancing (Turbo General).
The Group is investing significantly in digital monitoring and predictive maintenance platforms, as well as sustainable operational practices through its strategic cooperation with the Green Award Foundation.
Across our companies, Turbo General, GET STC, Green Marine and Thoe Marine, we deliver integrated and end-to-end technical, supply and field service solutions for the maritime and industrial sectors.
There are key additions to our services, including specialized support in Wärtsilä–SKF cylinder lubrication units (service, reconditioning, supply), SKF RecondOil oil regeneration systems and vibration analysis services, supply of all types of marine fenders ex Europe and PRC, authorized repair stations for European-made centrifugal separators, and approved technical workshops for Cypriot, Maltese and Egyptian maritime academies.
Also, there are green performance solutions such as aluminum fuel tanks, propeller design optimization, commercial diving services in Singapore, Brazil, Greece and the Netherlands, 24/7 global service engineer deployment from Athens and Varna, ship inspection services, and affiliated partner workshops across the Far East as well.
How does A General Group distinguish itself from other players in the industry, beyond competitive pricing and service quality?
Our differentiation is rooted in independence, specialization and adaptability. A General Group is one of the few privately owned, independent European groups offering brand-agnostic technical solutions across turbochargers, engines and critical vessel systems.
We do not simply repair components, but we deliver technical reliability, specialized consultancy, and sustainability-aligned performance solutions. Our approach combines five decades of hands-on experience with regulatory insight, allowing us to support clients from preventive maintenance and technical training to ESG alignment and claim management.
All services are managed using project management software and PRINCE2 methodologies, and audited under LR-certified management systems: ISO 9001:2015 (Quality), ISO 14001:2015 (Environmental), and ISO 45001:2018 (Health & Safety)
Over the past five years, what have been major challenges that significantly shaped A General Group’s direction?
The past five years were defined by geopolitical volatility, supply chain disruption, the COVID-19 crisis, and the acceleration of the maritime energy transition.
Rather than reacting defensively, we strategically diversified: expanded supplier bases across Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, invested in local workshops and on-ground partner networks and strengthened ESG integration in services and operations as well.
These decisions enhanced our operational resilience, ensuring uninterrupted service and supply support for clients even in difficult circumstances. The investments made in facilities, equipment, partnerships and talent during this period are now yielding measurable returns.
What processes or technologies have you recently implemented to improve efficiency or sustainability?
We have implemented a digital transformation framework focused on: Real-time data tracking for spare parts logistics, equipment performance analytics, and fleet-wide condition monitoring.
On sustainability, we prioritize component life extension through reconditioning, minimizing waste and reducing the carbon footprint of maintenance operations. GET STC and Green Marine lead the rollout of SKF RecondOil systems and energy-efficient maintenance procedures.
Also, our operations remain governed by PRINCE2 project structures and LR-certified Quality, Environmental and H&S Systems.
With evolving global regulations, digitalization, and growing competition, what role do you envision A General Group playing in shaping the future standards and direction of your industry?
A General Group aims to be a catalyst for modernization within the maritime technical sector. We actively participate in global networks such as WIMA, EMISA and the Green Award Foundation, contributing to the development of cleaner technologies, safer maintenance frameworks, and transparent service standards.
Our objective is to set benchmark practices in reliability, ESG integration, and independent technical service excellence
Employee development is key to organizational success. What are the company’s strategies and training programs to keep your workforce aligned with the latest industry practices and technologies?
Our people are our core strategic investment. We deliver continuous training in collaboration with maritime academies and OEM-certified instructors.
Thus, technicians receive structured training in: Latest turbocharger and engine technologies, advanced welding and reconditioning processes, safety and compliance standards, and digital diagnostics and vibration analysis as well.
Cross-company mobility provides engineers with global hands-on exposure across workshops, field service teams, R&D programs and onboard projects. Additionally, our cooperation with SKF enables specialized training in vibration analysis and portable dynamic balancing on board.
Looking ahead, what responsibility do companies like A General Group hold in shaping the next generation of industry leaders and ensuring a sustainable future for the sector?
Leadership today requires knowledge sharing, ethical conduct and long-term stewardship. We believe our responsibility extends beyond commercial activity to mentoring the next generation of technical professionals, supporting ESG initiatives and environmental responsibility, and promoting cross-border cooperation and innovation.
Sustainable progress requires collaboration, and A General Group is committed to being a proactive contributor to the future of the maritime and industrial services ecosystem.
