The containership Wan Hai 503, which suffered an explosion and fire off the coast of Kerala on 9 June and had been in limbo while seeking a port of refuge, has now secured safe harbor in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
According to Wan Hai Lines’ statement, the WAN HAI 503 has received official approval from DP World and the Dubai Ports Authority to berth at the Port of Refuge in Jebel Ali, United Arab Emirates. The vessel is expected to arrive safely on September 11, 2025, under tow by the designated salvage team.

Furthermore, preliminary assessments have confirmed that the vessel’s stability and structural integrity remain secure, with no immediate risks identified. Upon arrival, all necessary inspections and procedures will be carried out in full compliance with the requirements of the relevant authorities.
Container inspection and unloading operations will commence only after the completion of these formalities, however these activities are currently anticipated to begin in October, depending on the progress of inspections and coordination with cargo owners.
