Sallaum Terminal, a key facility of Sallaum Lines at the Port of Antwerp, celebrates the successful completion of its €20 million investment initiative, marking a major milestone in advancing automotive logistics in Europe.
Launched in 2024, the expansion project was designed to address growing demand and logistical bottlenecks in the automotive supply chain. Today, the terminal operates at fully enhanced capacity, with all planned infrastructure and service upgrades now fully implemented and operational.
Enhanced Capacity & Infrastructure
Capacity has surged from 10,000 to 17,000 Car Equivalent Units (CEU) thanks to the construction of a multi-level Parkhouse, delivered in two phases. Spanning 240,000 square meters with a 1,200-meter berth line, the terminal can now accommodate up to four RoRo vessels at once, dramatically boosting throughput and minimizing congestion.
Upgraded Logistics Services
Sallaum Terminal new phases updates now support:
- Pre-Delivery Inspections (PDI)
- Breakbulk and heavy lift operations
- Expanded warehousing and long-term storage
- Barge and truck intermodal transport solutions
These upgrades deliver faster, more efficient vehicle handling for OEMs and logistics partners, reducing transit times and boosting operational reliability.

Strategic Market Access
The expanded facility strengthens Sallaum Terminal’s position as a European distribution hub, with an eye on attracting new OEMs and shipping lines from Asia and China. Its prime location within the Port of Antwerp provides direct access to Europe’s most critical transport corridors.
Sustainability Goals in Progress
Aligned with Sallaum Lines’ net-zero 2030 goals, the terminal is preparing to roll out major sustainability initiatives, including:
- Shore power connections to cut emissions during vessel calls
- Solar energy systems to power terminal operations
These measures support the company’s goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2030.
Looking Forward
“The completion of this expansion marks a new chapter for Sallaum Terminal," said David Vanballaert, Sallaum Terminal Managing Director. “We are proud to offer a fully upgraded, sustainable, and high-capacity terminal that is positioned to become Europe’s premier hub for sustainable automotive logistics, designed to serve OEMs and shipping lines with unmatched efficiency and innovation.”
The milestone will be celebrated during the upcoming ceremony at the Port of Antwerp, marking a proud moment for Sallaum Lines, our partners, and the wider shipping community.
