Petrobras and Amazon Brazil have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to explore possibilities of collaboration in advancing the development and implementation of low-carbon fuel solutions in logistics activities in Brazil. The MOU sets guidelines to identify opportunities that integrate Petrobras' expertise in energy with Amazon Brazil's commitment to decarbonization.
The transportation sector represents a significant opportunity for carbon reduction through the adoption of more sustainable fuels and improved operational efficiency. The MOU takes place as companies across various industries accelerate sustainable practices and strengthen commitments to support the country's climate agenda, reducing carbon emissions while fostering economic growth with environmentally responsible operations.
"Petrobras reinforces its commitment to investing in innovative, competitive, and affordable decarbonization alternatives. The partnership with Amazon seeks to generate relevant business opportunities for both companies, advancing along the path of decarbonization while also creating benefits for society and the environment," said Petrobras' Director of Logistics, Commercialization and Markets, Claudio Schlosser.

Amazon co-founded and signed The Climate Pledge, a commitment to achieve net-zero carbon emissions across all its operations by 2040. Decarbonizing its transportation network is essential to reaching this goal. Through the MOU, Amazon Brazil and Petrobras will evaluate opportunities, including:
Development of low-carbon fuels certified by ISCC Plus or equivalent, with a preference for residual feedstocks of low carbon intensity;
Adoption of pilot programs where low-carbon fuels can be integrated into Amazon's transportation network;
Implementation of market-based mechanisms, such as Book and Claim or Mass Balance systems, to make low-carbon fuels more accessible and affordable for small and medium-sized enterprises that make up the majority of the logistics sector.
"This MOU represents an important step toward achieving our net-zero carbon emissions by 2040. Through it, we aim to develop innovative ways to advance our climate goals while evaluating opportunities to help Brazil decarbonize its transportation industry," said Ricardo Pagani, Head of Operations at Amazon Brazil.
"We believe that investments in low-carbon, waste-based feedstocks can enable farmers and agricultural cooperatives to transform their waste into valuable energy resources, potentially creating jobs in agricultural processing and fuel production. This approach could strengthen Brazil's energy independence, reinforcing its leadership position in the global bioeconomy."
As Amazon expands its operations in Brazil, with a DNA built on innovation and operational excellence, the company maintains a constant focus on improving energy efficiency and decarbonizing its transportation network. This corporate approach helps advance environmental goals while ensuring responsible business growth, investing in the future, and focusing on the long term.
Diesel R: a more sustainable fuel with Petrobras technology
Petrobras conducts research and implements solutions that, in addition to meeting market demands, point toward a low-carbon reality. In the road transport sector, the company is a pioneer in the development of renewable-content diesel in Brazil.
Diesel R, in addition to being more sustainable, meets the requirements of the most demanding engines and exhaust gas treatment systems without requiring modifications or changes to the logistics chain or storage. It is a high-quality product, which ensures greater durability and lower risk of engine failure.
Currently, Petrobras produces and markets Diesel R, with 5% renewable content, through the co-processing method at the Presidente Getúlio Vargas (Repar) refinery in Paraná and the Presidente Bernardes (RPBC) refinery in São Paulo.
