The ports supervised by the Saudi Ports Authority “Mawani” recorded during September 2025 an increase in total cargo throughput, including general cargo, dry bulk, and liquid bulk, by 8.60%, with 22,520,494 tons compared to 20,736,630 tons in the same period last year. General cargo totaled 1,224,415 tons, dry bulk cargo 5,703,629 tons, and liquid bulk cargo 15,592,450 tons.
Maritime traffic also rose by 1.11% to reach 1,001 vessels, compared to 990 vessels during the same period last year. Passenger numbers increased by 58.56% to reach 71,376 passengers, compared to 45,015 passengers last year. Meanwhile, the number of vehicles decreased by 20.09% to reach 75,616 vehicles, compared to 94,630 vehicles last year. The ports received 285,657 cattle heads, marking a decrease of 17.07% compared to 344,440 heads of livestock during the same period last year.
The statistics of handled containers recorded a decrease of 2.75% to reach 654,865 TEUs, compared to 673,368 TEUs during the same period last year (2024). Exported containers amounted to 237,349 TEUs, a decrease of 7.14% compared to 255,606 TEUs last year, while imported containers declined by 3.02% to reach 250,725 TEUs compared to 258,521 TEUs last year. On the other hand, transshipment containers recorded an increase of 4.74% to reach 166,791 TEUs, compared to 159,241 TEUs last year.

Operational performance excellence contributes to several economic benefits, including enhancing trade movement, stimulating industries and sectors related to maritime transport, boosting tourism, maritime activities and associated services, and supporting supply chains. It also plays a role in achieving food security for the Kingdom, in line with the objectives of the National Transport and Logistics Strategy to solidify Saudi Arabia’s position as a global logistics hub.
It is worth noting that the ports supervised by the Saudi Ports Authority recorded during August 2025 an increase in the number of handled containers by 9.52%, reaching 750,634 TEUs compared to 685,414 TEUs during the same period last year 2024.
