The ports supervised by the Saudi Ports Authority “Mawani” recorded a 12.19% increase in container throughput during October 2025, reaching 709,393 TEUs, compared to 632,323 TEUs in the same period of the previous year. Transshipment containers also rose by 38.68%, totaling 179,283 TEUs compared to 129,274 TEUs last year.
The number of import containers increased to 273,751 TEUs, while export containers rose to 127,844 TEUs.
The total cargo tonnage, including general cargo, dry bulk, and liquid bulk, increased by 6.93%, reaching 21,808,304 tons compared to 20,394,576 tons during the same period last year. General cargo amounted to 1,280,027 tons, dry bulk reached 4,348,305 tons, and liquid bulk totaled 16,179,972 tons.
Vessel traffic increased by 5.61%, reaching 1,035 ships compared to 980 ships in the same month of the previous year. Passenger numbers also rose sharply by 80.22%, reaching 86,825 passengers, up from 48,177 passengers last year. Meanwhile, vehicle volumes declined by 13.42% to 87,632 vehicles, compared to 101,210 vehicles last year. The Saudi ports received 482,461 cattle heads, marking a decrease of 26.31% compared to 654,712 cattle heads during the same period last year.
The increase in container throughput supports multiple economic benefits, including strengthening trade flows, stimulating industries linked to the maritime transport sector, and boosting tourism and marine-related services. It also contributes to enhancing supply chain efficiency and supporting food security, aligning with the National Transport and Logistics Strategy , to solidify the Kingdom’s standing as a global logistics hub bridging the three continents.
It is worth noting that in September 2025, the ports supervised Mawani achieved an 8.60% increase in total handled cargo tonnage (general cargo, dry bulk, and liquid bulk), reaching 22,520,494 tons, compared to 20,736,630 tons during the same period of the previous year.
