On Thursday, December 4, 2025, Prime Minister Eng. Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, accompanied by Dr. Eng. Farhan Al-Fartousi, Director General of the General Company for Ports of Iraq, conducted a field visit to the site of GCPI immersed tunnel, part of the Al Faw Grand Port project, to review the progress of works.
The Prime Minister affirmed that “this project is the first of its kind in the region and represents a pivotal milestone in the path of development,” stressing the need to complete it within the specified timelines.
For his part, Dr. Eng. Farhan Al-Fartousi explained that “work is advancing at a steady pace and in accordance with engineering specifications,” noting that “the tunnel will serve as the principal link between the port facilities and the international highway, granting Iraq greater capacity in logistical competitiveness.”
The tunnel extends a total length of 2,444 meters, including 1,260 meters beneath the Khor Al-Zubair channel, with a depth of 28 meters and three lanes in each direction. The project has reached a completion rate of 80%.
