FLIR has introduced its most advanced maritime imaging systems yet, the AI-powered M460 and M560. Designed for professional mariners, the new multi-spectral cameras promise sharper awareness, smarter tracking, and safer navigation in any sea condition.
FLIR, a global leader in marine thermal-imaging technology, has launched its new flagship series of multi-spectral maritime camera systems, the M460 and M560. The company says the new models represent a major leap in digital maritime awareness, combining advanced sensors, artificial intelligence, and precision engineering to help mariners see more clearly and react faster on the water.
Tailored for first responders, commercial vessels, and superyachts, the M460 and M560 combine a high-performance thermal sensor with a 4K low-light visible camera, an ITAR-free laser rangefinder with a range of up to 12 kilometres, and a powerful laser spotlight. The systems use onboard AI to identify and classify marine objects such as vessels, buoys, and people. Once an object is selected, the camera automatically tracks it with dynamic pan and tilt controls, maintaining focus even in rough seas or during high-speed manoeuvres.
“With the launch of the FLIR M460 and M560, we’re setting a new standard for maritime situational awareness,” said Grégoire Outters, General Manager of FLIR Marine. “By developing our own AI neural network specifically for the maritime environment and integrating it into these cameras, we’ve transformed the M460 and M560 into essential tools for tracking targets, reducing operator workload, and enabling smarter decision-making when it matters most. With advanced three-axis gyro stabilisation and multiple payload options, these cameras give mariners the confidence to navigate any situation on the water.”
Both models feature a three-axis gyro stabilisation system that compensates for pitch, roll, and yaw, ensuring smooth, stable imagery in any condition. The M460 uses a long-wave infrared sensor with 5x optical zoom for early target detection, while the M560’s mid-wave infrared sensor and 14x optical zoom extend performance to even greater distances.
FLIR’s Colour Thermal Vision (CTV) blends visible light and thermal images to create realistic, detailed visuals, where navigation lights appear in their natural colours and shoreline features are easier to identify.
The M460 and M560 will be showcased at METSTRADE 2025 in Amsterdam from November 18 to 20, and are now available through FLIR’s network of authorised dealers and distributors. For professional mariners and operators, FLIR’s latest innovation signals a new era of AI-assisted safety and precision at sea.
