His Excellency Dr. Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications of the Kingdom of Bahrain, participated in the 19th edition of the Maritime Cyprus 2025 Conference, held in Limassol from 6 to 8 October 2025, under the theme “Unlocking the Future of Shipping,” and under the patronage of His Excellency Nikos Christodoulides, President of the Republic of Cyprus.
Winds of Change
During his participation in the main ministerial session, titled “Winds of Change: Ministers Steering the Course of Maritime Transformation,” the Minister reaffirmed Bahrain’s commitment to developing a comprehensive and sustainable maritime transport system, enhancing the adoption of environmental standards and advanced technologies, and attracting regional and international maritime and trade initiatives that support sustainable economic growth and shared interests.
He also emphasized Bahrain’s keenness to strengthen international cooperation and partnerships in the maritime transport sector through the exchange of expertise and the adoption of global best practices in maritime safety and environmental protection. The Minister highlighted Bahrain’s continuous efforts to implement national strategies aimed at developing ports, infrastructure, and logistics services, reinforcing its position as a leading maritime and commercial hub in the region, while advancing its goals of digital transformation and a green economy.
Wide Participation
The Maritime Cyprus Conference is a prominent global platform that brings together top maritime industry leaders and executives from around the world to discuss the latest trends and challenges in the shipping industry, and to present innovative solutions that enhance sustainability and global integration in the sector.
The 2025 edition hosts more than 1,000 participants from over 30 countries, featuring a series of specialized sessions and workshops focused on various aspects of maritime transport.
Strengthening Cooperation
On the sidelines of the conference, the Minister held a business meeting with Alexis Vafeades, Minister of Transport, Communications and Works of the Republic of Cyprus, to discuss ways to enhance bilateral cooperation in the areas of port development, cargo handling operations, and logistics connectivity, in addition to strengthening the exchange of expertise in specialized logistics services.

HE Dr. Al Khalifa and his accompanying delegation also visited the Joint Rescue Coordination Center (JRCC) in Cyprus, where they met with Commander Andreas Charalambides, Head of the Center, and were briefed on the latest technologies used in managing emergency and rescue operations, as well as coordination mechanisms among relevant institutions.
The Minister praised the Center’s advanced capabilities and its active role in supporting maritime safety and security, stressing the importance of continued cooperation and knowledge exchange to further enhance the regional maritime and air rescue sectors.
Furthermore, the Minister held another meeting with Marina Hadjimanolis, Minister of Shipping of the Republic of Cyprus, where the two sides discussed ways to strengthen maritime cooperation, exchange expertise, and develop joint initiatives in maritime affairs and commercial shipping services.
Both sides underlined the importance of maintaining coordination and enhancing bilateral relations to support economic growth and improve the quality of maritime services, expressing a shared aspiration for stronger collaboration and openness in the maritime sector between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Republic of Cyprus.
