In implementation of the directives of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to localize the maritime industry and develop and modernize the Authority’s maritime fleet, Lieutenant General Osama Rabie, Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority, inspected the production line of the new “Azm” class tugboats with a pulling power of 90 tons, which are being built for the Authority at the Egypt Tugboat Factory in the South Red Sea Shipyard Company, where he was received by Mr. Mustafa El-Degishi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the company, and a number of the company’s leaders.
The tour included inspecting 6 “Azm” type locomotives whose construction is being completed, after 4 locomotives of the same type were already delivered as part of the contract with the Authority, in addition to following up on the work of assembling blocks for three new locomotives of the same type for export.
At the start of his tour, Lieutenant General Osama Rabie was keen to follow up on the progress of the fiberglass factories at the Suez Canal Modern Boats Company, a partnership between the Suez Canal Authority and the South Red Sea Shipyard Company. He also learned about the progress of the construction of a number of fiberglass boats, where the construction of the hulls of 3 pleasure launches to serve the purposes of maritime and Nile tourism has been completed, and work is currently underway to complete the installation of navigational equipment, engines, and external painting work.
The head of the authority also followed up on the progress of the construction of a series of 12 high-seas fishing vessels of the “Rizq” type, according to the latest technology in the world. The construction of the hull of four vessels has been completed, and the installation of mechanical equipment has been completed on two of them, while work is underway to complete the hull of a fifth fishing vessel whose technical specifications match the technical specifications of the Rizq 1 fishing vessel, which is currently operating in fishing in Australia.
During his tour, the Chairman of the Authority learned from Mr. Mustafa Al-Dajishi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of South Red Sea Shipyard Company, about the latest developments in the company’s infrastructure development work, where the interior finishing work of the attached administrative building has been completed, which will meet the company’s administrative needs in light of current and future expansions.

The attached administrative building consists of three floors, which include administrative offices, meeting rooms, a conference hall, and a suite dedicated to receiving external visits from clients.
Lieutenant General Rabie praised the progress rates of the infrastructure development works and directed that the necessary preparations for the operation of the attached administrative building be completed as soon as possible, along with the completion of the installation of two cranes in the shipyard with a load capacity of 50 tons each to contribute to accelerating the pace of work in completing the construction of the various marine units.
The head of the authority also learned about the latest developments in the manufacturing of a 60-person river bus, which is being built to operate for the benefit of the Cairo Governorate, in implementation of the directives of the political leadership, in a new step to advance the Egyptian river transport fleet.
The design work for the river bus was completed by the South Red Sea Shipyard Company, and the construction work is being carried out under the supervision of the Italian Supervision Authority RINA. The work of cutting and shaping the iron has already begun, and work is currently underway to start assembling the blocks that make up the body.
The river bus is 19 meters long and 5.5 meters wide, with a power of 75 kilowatts and is powered by electricity.
Following that, Lieutenant General Osama Rabie, Chairman of the Authority, met with Mr. Mustafa Al-Dajishi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of South Red Sea Shipyard Company, and a number of the company’s leaders to review the progress rates and the timetable set for launching the new marine units during the coming period.
The team directed Rabie to follow all quality standards, adhere to the specified timetable for completing the work, and demanded consideration of occupational safety and health requirements and continuous training for technical workers. He also urged them to continue working hard to complete the company's development plan in the best possible way.
Lieutenant General Rabie affirmed that the Suez Canal has made great strides towards localizing the marine unit industry to meet national needs within the canal and Egyptian ports, serving the river transport sectors and opening up to the foreign market for export.
The head of the authority explained that the continuous support and periodic follow-up from the political leadership for the efforts to localize the marine units industry in partnership with the private sector had a great impact on pushing the efforts to localize the industry in this vital sector to broader horizons and acquiring new experiences that did not exist before, which resulted in starting to manufacture more complex marine units according to the latest technology globally and having a presence on the regional scene.
