Greek Shipping Minister Vasilis Kikilias met with Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides during an official visit to Cyprus, where he also took part in an informal EU ministerial council on maritime transport and a conference focused on seafarers.
Following their meeting at the Presidential Palace, Kikilias described the talks as “substantive and productive,” saying discussions focused on shipping, maritime infrastructure, shipbuilding and energy cooperation.
He said Greece and Cyprus are advancing together in key strategic sectors, with shared efforts aimed at strengthening competitiveness and supporting economic development within the wider European maritime framework.
Earlier, Kikilias visited the Greek Navy frigate ELLI, docked in Cyprus as part of ongoing defense cooperation between the two countries. Accompanied by Greek Ambassador Konstantinos Kollias, he toured the vessel and spoke with crew members.
He highlighted the importance of Greece’s naval presence in Cyprus, calling it a symbol of solidarity and regional stability amid ongoing tensions in the Eastern Mediterranean.
Kikilias said Greece remains committed to supporting Cyprus and reinforcing deterrence capabilities in cooperation with its Cypriot partners.
