The Saudi Ports Authority “Mawani” has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the National Transport Safety Center to strengthen joint cooperation in supporting the safety of the maritime transport and ports system, and to enhance the efficiency of operational procedures related to maritime safety across the Kingdom’s ports.
The agreement was signed by His Excellency Eng. Suliman bin Khalid Al-Mazroua, President of the Saudi Ports Authority, and Captain Tai bin Abdulrahman Alshammari, CEO of the National Transport Safety Center, in the presence of several officials.
This partnership comes as part of Mawani’s efforts to enhance integration with national entities and achieve the highest maritime safety standards in line with the objectives of the National Transport and Logistics Strategy. It solidifies the Kingdom’s standing as a global logistics hub bridging the three continents.
The MoU aims to strengthen cooperation in sharing data and information related to major maritime incidents and accidents, as well as studies, safety research, and reporting mechanisms within the maritime transport and port sectors.
It also focuses on enhancing expertise and knowledge transfer through joint training, discussing regulatory updates and safety priorities, and ensuring alignment with the objectives of improving safety standards in maritime transport and ports. In addition, both parties will exchange expertise and resources to support the development of the maritime safety system.
Furthermore, the MoU contributes to organizing joint awareness campaigns and workshops between Mawani and the Center, and supporting safety investigation efforts in incidents. This will help raise safety standards and enhance the quality of transport across all modes in alignment with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030.
