Regal Rexnord harbors innovative marine powertrain solutions at SMM Hamburg 2024
Original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and tier suppliers in the marine sector are having to adapt to changeable conditions. For over a century, Regal Rexnord has supplied innovative, customizable power transmission systems that help fleets move with market currents, powering the voyages of innumerable vessels to the next safe harbor.
Visit SMM Hamburg 2024 to discover solutions and discuss operational challenges with experts from Regal Rexnord brands including CENTA™, Jaure™, Stromag™, Svendborg Brakes™, Twiflex™, Stearns™, and Wichita Clutch™ in Hall A3, Stand 310 from 3 - 6 September.
Providing single source powertrain support for above and below deck applications, Regal Rexnord is the one knowledgeable partner customers need to ensure reliability and efficiency. Its interoperable clutches, brakes, couplings, shaft systems, controls, and data monitoring platforms are in operation across shipping globally. Whether supporting a container ship, cruise ship, tugboat, dredger, fishing vessel, yacht, or a warship – Regal Rexnord has the product and service flexibility to meet requirements.
Tightening maritime emissions regulations are driving the adoption of hybrid propulsion systems, and Stromag’s 2in1 pioneering clutch/coupling combinations are ready-made for smooth switchover between diesel engines and electric drives. Visitors will be able to view a 2in1 featuring a flexible coupling from CENTA, showcasing the diverse combinations available to shipbuilders from both brands. Other Stromag highlights are the KMS multi-disc clutch, a compact, high torque to weight ratio unit suitable for ships of all sizes, along with the slim HPB brake for winches and hoists, which can be specified in 2- or 4-face configurations and IP67 protection.

Flexible coupling expert CENTA will also display its marine range. This includes the CENTAMAX, a torsionally flexible design with in-built ventilation ideal for pump drives; the torsionally soft CENTAX, suitable for direct to engine applications with a torque range of 400 to 800,000 Nm; its CENTADISC-C series, featuring a low weight carbon shaft to expedite vessel maintenance; and the CENTALINK torsionally stiff driveshaft, with its linkages designed to easily accommodating misalignment. CENTA’s experience in flexible couplings means it is ideally placed to support the reduction of vibrations and noise from downsized diesel engines, further supporting vessel electrification and crew comfort.
A highly versatile shaft locking device, Twiflex’s Turning, Locking, Braking (TLB) system will also be on stand. Available in 9 different specifications, the TLB offers any combination of a turning gear, locking device, and shaft brake paired with a hydraulic power unit (HPU) and control panel or a manual option. The multi-functionality of the TLB saves space onboard while protecting personnel during maintenance and overhauls.
Jaure will also bring a range of highly engineered couplings. Its Hydraulic Shaft coupling allows simple mounting and dismounting with a high pressure oil pump, while its general purpose Lamidisc coupling is a torsionally stiff disc pack design that can compensate for misalignment. Furthermore, its MTX series of marine style gear couplings are a popular selection for propulsion, dredging, pump, deck crane, anchor and tow winch applications.
