The Saudi Ports Authority Mawani and the Port of Marseille Fos signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at enhancing joint cooperation in several areas, including digital transformation towards smart ports, contributing to enhancing international trade, supporting the marine environment, and the green ports initiative.

This aligns with the sidelines of the VISION GOLFE 2024, organized by Business France, the national agency supporting the international development of the French economy, from June 4-5, 2024, in Paris, at the headquarters of the French Ministry of Economy, Finance, Industrial Sovereignty, and Digital Affairs, under the patronage of  President Emmanuel Macron, President of the French Republic.

The memorandum of understanding was signed by His Excellency the President of the Saudi Ports Authority “Mawani,” Omar Hariri, and His Excellency the CEO of the Port of Marseille Fos, Hervé Martel, in the presence of His Excellency the Ambassador of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques to the French Republic, Fahad Alruwaili, and  the CEO of Business France, Laurent Saint-Martin, along with several officials.

The memorandum of understanding contributes to enhancing Mawani's efforts to add economic value to both countries, in addition to promoting innovation, exchanging expertise, and developing leading capabilities in the Kingdom's ports. This aligns with the targets of the National Transport and Logistics Strategy (NTLS), to solidify the Kingdom’s standing as a global logistics hub bridging three continents.

The forum witnessed a panel discussion titled “The Future of Infrastructure,” in which the Vice President of Commercial Business, Abdullah AlMunif, discussed Mawani's efforts in developing the infrastructure of its ports. He also reviewed the major projects being implemented and the promising investment opportunities in the ports.

It is noteworthy that the VISION GOLFE 2024 is considered the largest annual economic and commercial event organized to enhance trade cooperation between France and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. The forum brings together key decision-makers from both the public and private sectors in the GCC countries, as well as several international leaders. The Port of Marseille Fos is one of the largest ports in France, given its significant role in facilitating international trade.
