Renault transports cars in containers to avoid high PCTC rates
To minimize the high cost of pure car, truck carriers’ (PCTCs) rates, Renault Korea will be transporting vehicles to Europe in 40-foot containers.
Renault Korea’s XM3 Arkana compact SUVs are now being sent out of Busan in 40-foot containers that can carry three vehicles, with the center vehicle tilted up to make place for the third.
While a record number of car orders, there is currently a global shortage of available car carrying capacity, which is reflected in the rising price situation.

While shipping used cars by container is typical, shipping new cars is not. The decision by Renault Korea comes after the French automaker experimented with exporting a few vehicles in this manner from Busan port earlier this year.
Renault has revealed that it will now transport 1,500-1,700 Arkana vehicles from Busan to Le Havre every month, with plans to begin exporting new cars in containers to other locations such as the United States, Belgium, Italy, Mexico, and Australia.
