Japanese shipowner Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK) exhibited a conceptual design for an ammonia-ready LNG-fuelled vessel at the recently concluded G7 summit held in Hiroshima.

NYK’s exhibit included the company’s attempts to implement the world’s first ammonia-fuelled vessel with a domestic engine and contained videos and panel displays to introduce zero-emission vessels. Among the vessels to be fitted with the ammonia-fuelled propulsion are a tug and an ammonia carrier.

The project is part of NYK’s goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2050.
