Alogla-Pilot boat pair built for Libyan waters
Turkish builder Med Marine recently handed over two new pilot boats in a series to the Misurata Free Zone (MFZ) at the Port of Misurata on Libya’s Mediterranean coast.
Designed by UK-based Camarc and built at Med Marine’s Eregli Shipyard facilities, Alogla and Alamer each have a steel hull, an aluminium superstructure, an LOA of 17.3 metres, a beam of 4.8 metres, and a draught of 1.3 metres. A top speed of 22 knots is made possible by two Volvo Penta D16 engines that each produce 478 kW at 1,800 rpm and drive 950mm propellers via ZF gearboxes. The double chine hull meanwhile gives each boat exceptional all-around seakeeping even at high operating speeds.

Seating is available for six pilots and two crewmembers on each boat. Safety is optimised thanks to a 360-degree view from the helm station, a wide enough deck for boarding, and elastomer-coated, foam core cylindrical fendering around the hull. The air-conditioned accommodation spaces meanwhile include a mess, a galley, a water closet, a stores area, and a two-person cabin.
A 6ekW generator supplies power for each boat’s various electronics, which include a radar and a VHF radio from JRC, an I-Marine AIS, a Polar Marine chart plotter, a Samyung echosounder, and an Area A1 GMDSS.
Each boat also has tank capacities of three cubic metres of fuel oil and 0.15 cubic metre of fresh water.
Design work on Alogla and Alamer was done in compliance to RINA class rules.
