"Rapid development has been Zohr’s most compelling characteristic. The time window between the signing of the engineering, procurement, construction and installation contract to the first production phase, just 17 months, is unrivaled in the oil and gas industry," Saipem stated in a LinkedIn post. "The Zohr project with planning and development from Saipem stands to emerge as a new industry benchmark."

In December, when the contract was announced, it was stated that Saipem would transport, install and pre-commission 170 km of umbilicals for Petrobel for the latest phase of the Zohr gas field development. And the umbiilcals would be laid between the central control platform in 70 m water depth and the subsea production system and facilities in 1,500 m water depth. At the time of the contract announcement, Saipem was scheduled to start the offshore campaign this summer.
