Swiss-based marine engine technology developer, WinGD, received the “Digital Solutions Provider of the year” award at the Shiptek International Awards 2023, held in Dubai, UAE, for the WinGD Integrated Digital Expert (WiDE), a comprehensive system that provides shipowners and operators with full awareness of their ships’ operating condition. 

As a leader in developing smart shipping solutions for the future, WinGD has over the years devised several solutions and systems to digitalise and in turn decarbonise shipping in line with the IMO’s provisions. Some of their pathbreaking developments include iCER (Intelligent Control by Exhaust Recycling) and Shipdex. Similarly, through WiDE, the company aims to drive the industry’s progress towards net-zero emissions, while enabling greater transparency and safety and ensuring increased efficiency and reliability.

Speaking on the company’s recent achievement, Dr. Eng. Employing the power of data

Sharing insights on WiDE, Dr. Eng. Behairy added: “WiDE has the power to revolutionise operations for our customers. As an intelligent approach to managing their fleet, it helps to greatly reduced commonly encountered obstacles and find solutions through data and analyses that empowers the crew. The system extracts information from engine and ship data by using expert engine knowledge combined with advanced data analytics techniques. This vital information, accessible to the crew substantially helps them understand more about efficiencies that can be gained, thus optimising their asset and fleet operations and maximising profitability for their business.” 

WiDE collects data via a Data Collection Monitoring (DCM) unit that visualises the engine and ship data, as well as the Engine Diagnostic System (EDS) software. The system provides live troubleshooting support for engine performance, suggested maintenance and component replacement, reducing operational interruptions, without the need to instal additional sensors. The machinery data provided can be accessed onboard and onshore.

The system’s performance analysis and monitoring incorporates a tailored digital twin model of the main engine. The digital twins enable developers to compare and assess real-time performance with measured operational data.
