Earlier this week, #Sinopec confirmed its plans to invest in fuel to meet Sri Lanka’s energy needs during a meeting with Sri Lanka’s President. They also expressed readiness to fully fund the construction of a refinery in Hambantota, which the government has designated as a central energy hub.

Representatives from the Sinopec Group confirmed their willingness to invest in the import, storage, distribution, and marketing of fuel to meet Sri Lanka’s energy needs. Furthermore, they informed President Ranil Wickremesinghe that their organization has followed the existing system and effectively employed.

In his remarks, President Ranil Wickremesinghe stated that Sri Lanka expects rapid development as a result of the program with the International Monetary Fund. He also stated his desire to promote and attract foreign businesses to operate in Sri Lanka in the future.

The discussion was attended by Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekera, Senior Advisor to the President on National Security and Chief of Presidential Staff Mr Sagala Ratnayake, Secretary to the President Mr Saman Ekanayake, Secretary of the Treasury Mr Mahinda Siriwardena, Secretary of the Ministry of Power and Energy Mr Mapa Pathirana, and government officials and representatives of the Sinopec Group.
