UAE-based marine projects company the NMDC Group has been awarded an AED1 billion (US$270 million) contract for dredging of the Suez Canal in Egypt.

The dredging will be carried out between the canal’s 122-kilometre and 132-kilometre markers. This will later allow greater numbers of larger and deeper-draught ships to access the waterway.

Works are scheduled for completion in 2023.
