The Deputy Ministry of Shipping of Cyprus aims to attract young people to shipping, by establishing the Committee for the development of maritime culture and the promotion of maritime studies in Cyprus, as well as a 16-member group of young shipping workers, who will act as guides.

The initiative is called D.I.S.C.O (Dive Into Shipping Career Opportunities) and the purpose of the Committee is to coordinate the actions of all the bodies that make up the maritime community of Cyprus, in order to develop a maritime culture and promote maritime studies and professions.

What is more, the committee also aims to jointly formulate proposals and recommendations to the Academic Institutions and Maritime Academies, so that the study programs offered or any new ones that will be formed, fully respond to the modern challenges and needs faced by shipping nationally and at global level.

"We have created a steering group of 16 shipping executives, young executives active in the field, from different academic backgrounds, to highlight the multidimensional character of shipping", deputy Minister of Shipping, Vassilios Demetriades said.

As part of the campaign visits will be made to secondary schools.
