In line with Abu Dhabi Port’s vision of providing best-in-class maritime services, Abu Dhabi Maritime Academy (ADMA) signed an agreement with Tug Training & Consultancy (TTC) to establish a long-term strategic partnership, which will result in the training of hundreds of tug masters and captains by certified trainers.

Abu Dhabi Academy, a path-breaking initiative by Abu Dhabi Ports is a center of excellence on building homegrown, regional and international talent for the diverse sections of the maritime industry. Established in 2018, the Academy offers world-class Maritime Education and Training (MET) with the goal of building a talent pool of maritime professionals, who will then be able to pursue rewarding careers in the fast-growing maritime sector.

According to Eng. Hamad Ibrahim Al Maghrebi, Abu Dhabi Maritime Academy’s General Manager, it is quite a significant and highly efficient role that Abu Dhabi Ports is playing throughout its support to the maritime educational sector, attracting the best out of the Emirati elite students. “The Academy has the best maritime simulators technology in the region, and the number of students are increasing, in line with our goals to attract and send students abroad for training. We started as a training center back in 2010, and today we are a maritime academy hoping to have the best of the Emirati maritime skills through our wide maritime programs and courses.”

Internationally Accredited Courses

The Academy’s courses are locally and internationally approved by UK Maritime & Coastguard Agency (MCA), UAE Federal Transport Authority (FTA), International Association Lighthouse Authorities (IALA), and Lloyd’s Register.

Abu Dhabi Maritime Academy is considered to be the first approved center by IALA, to conduct Vessel Traffic Services (VTS), and Aids to Navigation (AtoN) Courses in the region, also delivering International Maritime Organization (IMO) Model Courses, all of which meet the requirements of the latest edition of International Convention on the Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for seafarers (STCW).

In addition, the UK’s Maritime & Coastguard Agency (MCA) has accredited the ECDIS and Automatic Radar Plotting Aid (ARPA) courses, as well as the associated certificates, which makes the Academy the first training center in the region to offer such courses with worldwide recognition.

 

Broad Spectrum of Courses

The academy is dedicated to ensuring that its courses remain relevant to regional and global demands. In the pursuit of this, the courses are developed in collaboration with top maritime industry players, combining theoretical and practical modules. The basic and advanced maritime courses fall under four main categories: Professional Training, Maritime Simulator-based training, Maritime Short Courses and Bespoke Training.

Future Plans

Through its prestigious academic position and efforts to develop its skills, the Academy is continuously evolving and expanding, formulating new academic programs and signing partnerships with well-known and forward-thinking educational institutions. Currently, the Academy is looking into offering the following courses: Competency-Based Programs which include Cadetship Programs, Navigational Watchkeeping Officer, Marine Engineer Officer, Electrical & Electronic Engineer Officer, and Maritime Pilots, in addition to the Academic Studies which include Nautical Science, Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrotechnical Engineering, Maritime Logistics, Port Managements, and Safety & Security.
