Survitec has unveiled a new high-expansion foam system that promises better fire protection at lower costs. The innovation marks another step in the company’s mission to improve safety and efficiency for shipowners worldwide.
Survitec, a global leader in survival technology, has launched its next-generation high-expansion foam fire suppression system, engineered to deliver greater foam output at lower operating pressures. The new design not only enhances fire protection efficiency but also helps shipyards and vessel owners cut installation and maintenance costs.
At the heart of the development is a redesigned foam generator that achieves high expansion rates while operating at significantly lower feed pressures. “Lowering pressure was our number one objective,” said Maciej Nieścioruk, Product Manager for Foam and Clean Agent Systems at Survitec. “By optimising nozzle alignment, introducing new moving elements to create rotary momentum, and enhancing airflow, the result is a solution that achieves very high expansion rates at significantly lower nominal pressures, which also drives down costs.”
The system’s improved performance means fewer generators are needed to produce the same volume of foam. “That reduction translates into tangible benefits in terms of reducing capital and installation costs,” Nieścioruk added. “When combined with the lower pressure demands, this gives shipowners a system that is lighter, more efficient, and easier to service, without compromising fire safety.”
The design has been validated in partnership with DNV, confirming stable expansion ratios and reliable discharge behavior across different configurations. It is also fluorine-free, meeting upcoming environmental regulations, and integrates with Survitec’s safety management platform, SMARR-TI.
Built with flexibility in mind, the new foam system can be deployed in machinery spaces on gas carriers and tankers, as well as RORO spaces on car carriers. It supports both remote and manual operation, offering versatility for different vessel types.
Survitec will showcase the new system at Kormarine 2025 in Busan, South Korea, from October 21 to 24. The company’s global service network, covering over 2,000 ports in 96 countries, will also ensure that shipowners can access replacement foam concentrates and technical support anywhere in the world.
For Survitec, the innovation is another step in its long-standing mission to protect lives at sea while helping the industry move toward safer and more sustainable operations.
