StormGeo’s Voyage Intelligence platform is helping shipowners and operators connect efficiency with decarbonization. By bringing weather, fuel, and performance data into one place, the company is proving that every voyage decision can support both profitability and sustainability.
Shipping today operates in a far more complex world than ever before. Rising fuel costs, tighter carbon regulations, unpredictable weather, and shifting trade patterns have made operational efficiency a daily challenge. For many in the industry, the question is no longer whether to decarbonize, but how to do it while staying competitive.
StormGeo believes the answer lies in turning data into action. Its Voyage Intelligence platform gives shipowners, operators, and charterers the tools to plan, monitor, and evaluate every voyage with precision. It brings together weather forecasts, vessel performance, and fuel analytics to identify the most efficient routes and speeds.
“As the industry adopts new energy sources and technologies, innovation will continue to optimize how ships operate,” said Petter Andersen, Vice President for Shipping at StormGeo. “For every vessel, improving operational efficiency remains the fastest and most cost-effective way to reduce emissions and strengthen performance.”
In 2024 alone, StormGeo supported more than 75,000 voyages worldwide. The company estimates those voyages saved about 0.6 million tonnes of fuel and avoided 1.8 million tonnes of CO₂. “Those reductions were achieved through smarter decision-making, voyage by voyage,” Andersen said.
Voyage Intelligence grew from StormGeo’s 25 years of maritime forecasting. It now integrates predictive analytics and vessel-specific models with real-time weather and compliance data. The goal is simple: give ship and shore teams one clear view of performance. “When everyone, from the master to the commercial manager, sees the same data, decisions become faster and more aligned,” Andersen said. “The outcome is greater efficiency, lower risk, and stronger operational performance.”
Regulations like the Carbon Intensity Indicator and the EU Emissions Trading System are changing how voyages are planned. With Voyage Intelligence, operators can forecast efficiency ratings and carbon costs before a voyage begins. “Efficiency and sustainability aren’t competing priorities,” Andersen said. “Every drop of fuel saved supports both profitability and compliance.”
For StormGeo, efficiency is more than a technical measure. It is a strategy for growth. “Smarter voyages mean stronger returns for the industry and the planet alike,” Andersen said.
