Oman's logistics, maritime and communications sectors continue to demonstrate robust performance, supported by heavy public and private investment and reinforced by rising activity across ports, digital platforms and sector-wide Omanisation programmes.
According to the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MOTCIT), investment in logistics exceeded RO 2.6 billion by September 2025, while the ICT sector attracted RO 140 million over the same period.
The Ministry has paid more than RO 1.2 billion in outstanding dues to the private sector for development projects between 2020 and 2025. Of this, RO 227 million was disbursed from January to August 2025 alone. Payments were concentrated in national road development, port expansion, maritime services and IT projects. Government revenues from ministry operations reached RO 26.6 million by August 2025, marking a RO 3.3 million year-on-year increase.
Omanisation remains a central priority. In the ICT sector, the Omanisation rate reached 67 per cent across technical, specialised and leadership roles. In logistics, Omanisation stood at 59 per cent by September 2025. Maritime workforce development is also advancing, with 230 Omani seafarers trained and employed through dedicated programmes. The express delivery regulation initiative supported the employment of 140 Omani nationals. Through the Makeen digital skills initiative, more than 10,000 Omanis have been trained between 2021 and 2025.
Omani ports continue to play a vital role in national economic growth. During the first half of 2025, maritime trade represented 66.2 per cent of the total value of imports and exports. Exports via ports accounted for 74.4 per cent of all export value, while maritime imports represented 64.9 per cent of total imports. Re-export activity through ports reached 47 per cent.
Between January and August 2025, ship arrivals increased by 11.3 per cent compared with the same period in 2024. Ports also handled more than 3.8 million TEUs between January and September 2025, up 16.4 per cent year-on-year, while cargo volumes surpassed 105.9 million tonnes, reflecting steady growth in trade.
Maritime revenue exceeded RO 1 million in 2025, a 31 per cent increase from the previous year. The Ministry issued 212 foreign vessel permits, registered 584 vessels under the Omani flag, renewed nearly 1,900 registrations and issued more than 1,000 seafarer certificates. Licences for maritime activities reached 1,578.
Combined with expanding digital logistics services, strong port performance and sustained investment, Oman's logistics sector is consolidating its role as a vital pillar of economic diversification and international trade facilitation.
