“K” LINE ENERGY SHIPPING (UK) LIMITED (KLES), a London-based subsidiary of Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (“K” LINE), and Havstjerne ANS (HANS), an unlimited liability partnership formed by Harbour Energy Norge AS (the Norwegian subsidiary of UK-based oil and gas company Harbour Energy) and Stella Maris CCS AS (a wholly owned subsidiary of Yinson Production), have entered into an agreement to jointly identify and advance transportation, injection, and storage solutions best suited for the Havstjerne CO2 storage licence on the Norwegian Continental Shelf. Under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), KLES and HANS will collaborate to optimize both technical and commercial solutions for a marine-based CO2 value chain centered on a floating storage and injection unit (FSIU) and liquefied CO2 carriers, aiming to mature these technologies.
Leveraging their combined expertise in liquefied CO2 transportation, injection, and subsurface storage, the companies intend to provide a robust and cost-effective CO2 transport and storage service for emitters within the Havstjerne CO2 value chain. Offshore sequestration remains a safe and efficient method for permanently storing large volumes of CO2, with FSIUs offering safe, reliable, and cost-effective solutions especially where land for onshore CO2 terminals is limited or pipelines over long distances are impractical. The Havstjerne licence is located in the Norwegian North Sea, approximately 100 km southwest of Egersund and near key Northern European ports. Harbour Energy (operator) holds 60% ownership, with Stella Maris CCS AS, part of Yinson Production, owning the remaining 40%.

Yinson Production operates a fleet of floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) vessels, and floating storage and offloading (FSO) vessels, bringing significant expertise in offshore energy engineering, design, and operations.
Since 2021, Yinson has been developing its carbon value chain with direct investments in carbon capture technologies. The “K” LINE Group boasts a long history in owning, operating, and managing liquefied gas carriers, and since 2024, KLES has operated two liquefied CO2 carriers as part of the world’s first commercial CO2 transport and storage service. Committed to its Environmental Vision 2050, the “K” LINE Group actively promotes initiatives supporting its own decarbonization efforts and those of society, pushing forward its CCS business with the goal of fostering a sustainable society and enhancing corporate value.
