The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has published its Monthly Piracy Report for the month of September 2025.
According to the IMO, eight acts of piracy and armed robbery were attempted against ships during the month of September 2025 and reported by Member States or international organizations in consultative status. The incidents include:
1- In territorial waters
- Verity (Tanker, Malaysia)
The incident: Duty crew onboard an anchored tanker spotted an unauthorised person onboard the vessel. Alarm was raised and a PA announcement was made. Seeing the crew alertness, the person jumped overboard and escaped with an accomplice in a small boat. Incident reported to port control.
Response: PRC relayed the message to MMEA Putrajaya, MMEA Sabah & Malaysia Marine Police. (IMBKL)
Location: Sepangar Bay anchorage, Malaysia 06° 01.66′ N 116° 04.01′ E
Delta Maria (Oil tanker, Malta)
The incident: While underway, three perpetrators had tied up the oiler in the engine room. The oiler witnessed the perpetrators taking some engine spares before leaving. The oiler freed himself and notified the master. The master raised the general alarm and mustered all crew. A search was conducted but no perpetrators were found. Some engine spares were stolen.
Response: The master reported the incident to Singapore Vessel Traffic Information System (VTIS) West. Safety broadcast on anti-piracy watch was initiated. The Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) and Singapore Police Coast Guard (PCG) were notified. Information was shared with the Indonesian authorities.
Location: Approximately 4.4 nm from Pulau Cula, Indonesia, in the eastbound lane of the Traffic Separation Scheme 01° 03.32′ N 103° 38.43′ E
2- In port area
- MV Super Shuttle Ferry 18 (Passenger ship, Philippines)
The incident: While at anchor, the Master reported to Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and Coast Guard Station (CGS) Batangas that unidentified men were seen boarding the vessel. CGS Batangas, in coordination with Philippine National Police Maritime Group (PNP-MG), intercepted a fishing banca with two individuals onboard, who were found in possession of emergency generator spare parts originally from the vessel. The individuals were apprehended.
Response: CGS Batangas, together with Coast Guard Investigation and Detection Management Service and a representative from Asian Marine Transport Corporation, coordinated with the city prosecutor’s office for filing of the perpetrators.

- Athens Spirit (Tanker, Bahamas)
The incident: Duty watchkeeper notified the Master of suspicious activity. The Master raised general alarm. Intruders fled the vessel.
Response: Reported to Balongan Port Authority. Information sent to BAKAMLA – Indonesian Coast Guard.
Location: Balongan Anchorage, Indonesia 06° 12.00′ S 108° 27.70′ E
Adriatic Gas (LPG tanker, Denmark)
The incident: 1st Assistant Engineer observed three unidentified individuals exiting the engine room. The Duty watchkeeper notified the Master who raised the general alarm. The intruders fled the vessel by jumping overboard from the poop deck and escaped via a high-speed craft. Some stores were stolen.
Response: Reported to Bangladesh Coast Guard. (IMBKL)
Location: Chattogram anchorage, Bangladesh 22° 08.65′ N 091° 47.52′ E
Ken Ann (Bulk carrier, Panama)
The incident: Unnoticed robbers in a small fishing boat approached and boarded an anchored barge using ropes. They stole an outboard engine, barge properties, and stores before escaping.
Response: Reported to Port Facility Security Officer. Indonesia PRC relayed the message to Indonesian Marine Police HQ. (IMBKL)
Location: Tanjung Priok Port, Indonesia 06° 05.90′ S 106° 53.00′ E
- Vivit Arabia (Gas carrier – LNG, Liberia)
The incident: While at anchor, deck crew on patrol spotted two perpetrators near the forecastle area and reported to the bridge immediately. The perpetrators escaped. Subsequent inspection revealed two fire hoses and two portable embarkation ladder lights were stolen. Crew not injured.
Response: The master reported the incident to Philippine Vessel Traffic Information System (VTIS).
Location: Batangas Anchorage, Philippines 13° 45.75′ N 120° 59.04′ E
- Otto 1 (Barge carrier, Malta)
The incident: Unnoticed robbers in a small fishing boat approached and boarded the anchored barge using ropes. They stole an outboard engine, barge properties, and stores before escaping. The theft was discovered during routine rounds.
Response: Reported to Port Authorities, Congo. PRC relayed the message to Congo coastal marine. (IMBKL)
Location: Pointe Noire Anchorage, The Congo 04° 47.54′ S 011° 48.33′ E
