Erik Thun Group proudly announces the successful launch of M/V Naven, the sixth and final dry cargo vessel in our new generation Lake Vänern MAX series. Moments ago, at the Ferus Smit shipyard in the Netherlands, Naven touched water for the very first time – marking not only a major milestone for the series but also the 50th vessel built in our long-standing partnership with Ferus Smit and MF Shipping Group.
The atmosphere at the yard was electric as industry partners, employees, families, and guests watched the vessel slide gracefully into the water – a shared celebration of craftsmanship, long-term collaboration, and Swedish-Dutch shipbuilding heritage.
“This launch is more than a technical achievement – it’s a celebration of decades of collaboration, innovation, and shared values,” says Johan Källsson, Managing Director. “Reaching our 50th vessel together is something we’re extremely proud of. And to do it with a vessel that represents the future of sustainable dry cargo transport in Northern Europe feels especially meaningful.”
A new generation built for the future
The Lake Vänern MAX vessels are designed to meet the regulatory and dimensional requirements of Lake Vänern and its waterways, while remaining fully suited for operation in other trading areas. With state-of-the-art technology, improved fuel efficiency, and a strong focus on environmental performance, the series sets a new standard for responsible coastal and inland shipping.
M/V Naven carries forward all the hallmarks of the series – smart design, low fuel consumption, and operational flexibility – making her an important addition to our fleet and to the Nordic logistics ecosystem. The name Naven was chosen to honor the iconic lighthouse on Kollandsö – a symbol of guidance, reliability, and our long-standing connection to Lake Vänern’s maritime heritage.
Proudly built in the Netherlands
The Netherlands has long been home to some of Europe’s finest shipbuilding expertise. Having Naven built here, at a yard where we’ve now completed 50 vessels together, is a point of pride for everyone involved.
“Ferus Smit and MF have been true partners in every sense of the word,” says Johan Källsson. “Their craftsmanship is evident in every weld and every innovation onboard Naven.”
Strengthening Swedish shipping for generations to come
As a Swedish, family-owned shipping group, Erik Thun Group remain committed to long-term thinking, responsible operations, and creating value for industry and society. The launch of M/V Naven is another step in that commitment, supporting efficient trade flows, renewing our fleet with modern tonnage, and investing in sustainable solutions for the future.
M/V Naven will now undergo final outfitting before entering service early 2026.
