Syrian and Emirati officials have advanced discussions on a proposed regional logistics corridor that would connect Syria’s ports with Gulf markets via Iraq, in a move aimed at enhancing trade flows, improving transport connectivity, and strengthening regional supply chains.
Qutaiba Badawi, Chairman of Syria’s General Authority for Land and Sea Ports, met a high-level delegation that included UAE Chargé d’Affaires Abdul Hakeem al-Nuaimi and Mohammed Al Menhali, Regional Chief Executive Officer of AD Ports Group.
Officials discussed a proposed transport route connecting Syrian ports with Iraq’s Port of Umm Qasr before extending to Khalifa Port in the United Arab Emirates. The project aims to reduce shipping times and transportation costs while improving regional supply chains.
The talks also covered investment opportunities in Syria’s ports, free zones and inland dry ports, including a proposed logistics hub at the al-Tanf border crossing.
Both sides said they would continue coordinating on logistics, maritime transport and infrastructure projects supporting bilateral economic cooperation.
