At the 2026 International Tourism Fair in Madrid, GNV, a subsidiary of the MSC Group and a cruise operator, announced its intention to use the new ships in its fleet on routes connecting Spain and Morocco to enhance connectivity between the two countries.
Matteo Catani , the company's CEO, stated during his speech at the International Tourism Fair: “We are working closely with the relevant authorities to operate the new ships on the routes connecting Morocco starting next summer. It is a crucial step that strengthens the links between Spain and the North African country with more modern, larger, and more environmentally sustainable vessels.”
He added: “Cooperation with all institutions – Spanish and Moroccan port authorities and ports, diplomatic representatives and ministries – is essential to improving port infrastructure, services and transport systems, which will bring tangible and lasting benefits to regions and communities. Fleet renewal and the activation of a low-impact maritime corridor are essential steps to achieving more efficient and sustainable transport.”
According to the maritime company, the new units, designed to ensure operational and environmental efficiency, offer “clear advantages to customers – most of whom are Moroccans living abroad – and to local communities, who will benefit from the low-impact maritime routes.”
“This renewal project also includes Spain, a leading country in the field of energy transition, with which GNV shares a clear and future-oriented strategic vision,” concludes Matteo CataniIt should be noted that GNV’s new direct routes between Tangier and Barcelona, and Barcelona and Genoa, allow passengers to board at the port of Tangier and disembark in Italy, and vice versa.
