The Ministry of Transport plans for the multi-purpose terminal “Safaga 2”, within the “Greater Safaga Port” plan, to accommodate about 500,000 containers annually, in addition to receiving and handling general goods estimated at about 7 million tons annually; which reflects the size of the investment and operational ambition of the project.
The ministry said in a statement today that the port of Safaga is witnessing a new developmental boom with the circulation of the latest aerial photography of works which represent one of the most important projects being implemented within the plan to develop Egyptian ports and transform Egypt into a regional center for transport, logistics and transit trade, in the framework of implementing the directives of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, within a comprehensive vision to develop the infrastructure and enhance the state’s capabilities in the field of maritime transport and logistics services.
The ministry added that the multi-purpose terminal project “Safaga 2” is located on an area of approximately 776,000 square meters, with quays that are 1,100 meters long and 17 meters deep, allowing it to receive ships with a large draft.
She pointed out that the implementation of the station’s infrastructure works was completed 100% by specialized Egyptian national companies, confirming the ability of local personnel to complete major projects according to international standards, while the implementation of the superstructure works has already begun in preparation for operating the station according to the latest operational systems in managing multi-purpose stations.
She added that the implementation of “Safaga 2” represents a pivotal part of the integrated logistics corridor (Safaga – Qena – Abu Tartour), one of the seven international logistics corridors implemented by the state, with the aim of achieving integration between seaports, industrial zones, and mining and agricultural production areas in Upper Egypt.
The ministry explained that the station is expected to contribute to transforming the port of Safaga into the main gateway for the development of the Upper Egypt region, by serving mining activities in the Golden Triangle area, enhancing export and import operations, and benefiting from development projects in the north, middle and south of Upper Egypt.
