A Russian attack on a civilian cargo vessel flying the Togo flag has killed three crew members and injured five others, Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Oleksii Kuleba said on Monday.
The vessel was targeted while it was docked in Ukraine’s Odesa region, according to Kuleba, who confirmed that the ship was a civilian commercial vessel. Odesa Regional Governor Oleh Kiper said the vessel was carrying mineral fertilizers at the time of the attack.
The strike represents a new escalation affecting commercial maritime activity and civilian infrastructure in the Black Sea, as Russian attacks on Ukrainian ports and logistics facilities continue. The incident has heightened concerns over the security of commercial shipping routes in the region.
