The Red Sea Ports Authority expands its maritime capabilities by signing a strategic contract with the Egyptian Shipbuilding and Repair Company to build two advanced tugboats with Egyptian hands.
As part of the state's efforts to modernize and develop the maritime infrastructure and enhance the ports' ability to accommodate modern, large-capacity vessels, the Red Sea Ports Authority signed a contract with the Egyptian Shipbuilding and Repair Company, a leading company in the shipbuilding sector in the region, to build two new tugboats for the authority. The contract was signed in the presence of both Major General Engineer Mohamed Abdel Rahim, Chairman of the Red Sea Ports Authority, and Rear Admiral Ashraf Abbas, Chairman of the Egyptian Shipbuilding and Repair Company, at the company's headquarters. This collaboration reflects Egypt's commitment to developing its maritime industries and strengthening national partnerships to support the national economy.
The project aims to create two modern tugboats with high capacity to handle large-tonnage vessels, which will enable Red Sea Ports to improve maneuvering and guidance operations, especially in light of the growing trade movement in the region. The tugboats will feature a towing capacity of up to 70 tons, allowing them to handle various sizes and weights of ships in fluctuating weather conditions. The tugboats will be built according to the latest technical and engineering standards to ensure maximum operational efficiency while fully committing to marine environmental protection.
Major General Engineer Mohamed Abdel Rahim, Chairman of the Red Sea Ports Authority, confirmed that training and expanding maritime capabilities are part of the Authority's ambitious plan. This includes training the Authority's crews to operate the new tugboats, which will contribute to improving operational efficiency and support the Authority's goal of expanding its maritime capabilities to meet future challenges. The Authority also aims to enhance its maneuvering and guidance capacities to provide the best maritime services to the largest ships in the Red Sea. He emphasized the Authority's commitment to enhancing cooperation with national companies in implementing its projects, asserting that this collaboration represents an important step toward strengthening the role of Egyptian ports internationally.
For his part, Rear Admiral Ashraf Abbas, Chairman of the Egyptian Shipbuilding and Repair Company, expressed his pride in working with the Red Sea Ports Authority and confirmed that the company would deliver the tugboats according to the highest standards of quality and efficiency. He pointed out that building these tugboats is a significant step toward enhancing the Egyptian fleet's capabilities in facing future challenges.
