The Panama Maritime Authority (AMP) informs the public that it continues to monitor the situation of the vessel Anchovetas II, which suffered an accident 4 nautical miles southeast of Puerto Caimito.
As a result of this incident, the rescue of eight (8) people alive and the tragic death of one (1) person have been formally reported. At this time, security and rescue agencies are continuing search operations for two (2) other people who remain missing.
Furthermore, technical reports confirm that, so far, no contamination has been recorded in the area of the incident.
The AMP, through its technical departments, has already initiated the corresponding investigation to determine the causes of the event, in strict accordance with the provisions of the International Maritime Organization's (IMO) Marine Casualty Investigation Code.
The institution reiterates its commitment to safeguarding human life at sea and will continue to update information as search efforts and investigations progress.
