The ports supervised by the Saudi Ports Authority "Mawani" achieved a 9.16% increase in cargo throughput tonnage in June 2024, reaching 27,640,795 tons compared to 25,320,449 tons in the same month of 2023.
The statistics of handled containers were 594,972 TEUs, marking a decrease of 15.51% compared to 704,197 TEUs last year. Transshipment containers dropped by 54.89% to 121,372 TEUs compared to 269,082 TEUs in 2023.
In the same context, the statistics of imported containers increased by 9.85%, reaching 245,569 TEUs compared to 223,547 TEUs last year, and the statistics of exported containers increased by 7.78%, reaching 228,031 TEUs compared to 211,568 TEUs in the same period of 2023.
The total general cargo reached 584,906 tons, solid bulk cargo reached 4,967,385 tons, and liquid bulk cargo reached 15,551,736 tons. The ports received 1,821,863 cattle heads, a decrease of 8.51% compared to 1,991,248 cattle heads in the same period of 2023.
The number of cars increased by 33.93%, reaching 101,146 cars compared to 75,524 cars last year. Meanwhile, shipping traffic decreased by 3.41%, reaching 962 ships compared to 996 ships in 2023, and the number of passengers decreased by 18.66%, reaching 55,289 passengers compared to 67,970 passengers last year.
It is worth noting that “Mawani” launched the Port Community System (PCS) during the first quarter of 2024 under the umbrella of the unified logistics window “Logisti,” providing more than 250 e-services at the ports. This contributes to increasing the competitiveness of the maritime transport sector and raising the productivity of the port sector, in line with the targets of the National Transport and Logistics Strategy (NTLS), to solidify the Kingdom’s standing as a global logistics hub bridging three continents, as part of Saudi Vision 2030.
