The Saudi Ports Authority “Mawani” has announced the commencement of container terminal operations at Jubail Commercial Port under a privatization contract with Saudi Global Ports (SGP), backed by private sector investments exceeding SAR 2 billion, in line with the objectives of the National Transport and Logistics Strategy under Saudi Vision 2030.
The commencement of operations comes as part of the implementation of the privatization contract signed between the two parties, which includes the development of infrastructure and the modernization of operational equipment. This includes increasing berth length from 1,000 m to 1,400 m, deepening berths from 14 m to 18 m, increasing the number of STS cranes from 6 to 10, and raising the number of RTG cranes from 13 to 29 automated, environmentally friendly cranes.
The launch will increase the container terminal’s handling capacity from 1.5 million TEUs to 2.4 million TEUs annually, across an area of 460,000 square metres, enabling the terminal to accommodate large next-generation vessels, enhance operational efficiency, and reinforce Jubail Commercial Port’s position as a key logistics gateway supporting the Kingdom’s sustainable growth. It will also strengthen operational integration with the Group’s terminals across the Eastern Coast ports.
His Excellency the Minister of Transport and Logistics Services and Chairman of the Board of the Saudi Ports Authority, H.E. Eng. Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser, stated that the commencement of container terminal operations at Jubail Commercial Port is the result of deepening partnership with the private sector and growing confidence in the Kingdom’s investment environment, contributing to the achievement of the objectives of the National Transport and Logistics Strategy.
He added that the project will further enhance the Kingdom’s competitiveness as a global logistics hub connecting three continents, support the growth of supply chains and maritime trade, and strengthen the role of Saudi ports in attracting global shipping lines and large next-generation vessels.
For his part, the President of the Saudi Ports Authority, H.E. Eng. Suliman bin Khalid Al-Mazroua, affirmed that the commencement of operations comes within Mawani’s strategy to enhance port operational efficiency and strengthen competitiveness at both regional and global levels, noting that this partnership represents a major step towards developing infrastructure and logistics services at Jubail Commercial Port in line with the highest international standards.
He added that this marks a continuation of the strategic partnership with the national private sector to support trade movement and global supply chains, in line with the objectives of the National Transport and Logistics Strategy.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of Saudi Global Ports, Eng. Abdullah bin Mohammed Al-Zamil, expressed his pleasure at this milestone, which comes as part of the Group’s business expansion aligned with the national logistics objectives. He reaffirmed the Group’s commitment to supporting the Kingdom’s long-term ambitions under Saudi Vision 2030 by strengthening supply chain capabilities, advancing operational excellence, and enabling maritime trade with efficiency and resilience.
Jubail Commercial Port is one of the key ports in the Eastern Province, distinguished by its strategic location near industrial cities, making it a vital hub for supporting exports and imports, strengthening supply chains, and serving national industries while connecting them to regional and global markets.
