Within the framework of strengthening port development in the province of Chiriquí and with a physical progress of 63% in the construction of the Multipurpose Dock of Puerto Armuelles, the Panama Maritime Authority (AMP) officially launched the strategic consultancy of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) in said province, as part of the roadmap for the consolidation of the work.
The day began with the technical presentation of the AMP's flagship project to the consultant of the international financial organization, engineer Roberto Suárez Nicolini, who leads the evaluation process.
The consultancy is aimed at determining the scope of the structure, analyzing the potential demand of the area of influence, including adjacent land, and defining the management model of the new port facility.
As part of the agenda, the Panama Maritime Authority (AMP) , along with representatives from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and provincial authorities, conducted a site inspection of the project, followed by a working meeting with more than 70 businesspeople interested in exploring investment opportunities related to the operation and development of the multipurpose pier. The activity was supported by the Ministry of Commerce and Industries (MICI).
The central objective of this meeting was to gather strategic information that would allow the structuring of a solid and sustainable business model, aligned with the dynamics of national and international maritime trade and regional logistics, thus strengthening the port future of western Chiriquí, for the benefit of the country and its projection towards the Latin American region.
The IDB consultant also conducted interviews with agro-industrial companies and members of the Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Agriculture and Tourism of Chiriquí (CAMCHI) to assess business opportunities.
In parallel with these activities, the AMP conducted an academic presentation to students from various faculties of the Technological University of Panama (UTP-Chiriquí), sharing technical information about the New Pier: aspects of the Local Planning Plan of the Barú district, territorial planning, human talent training and sustainable port development, with tangible purposes; which will boost commercial development and employment in the proud province.
