DP World is planning to develop a new port and container terminal on the UAE’s eastern coast, a strategic move aimed at strengthening the country’s maritime infrastructure, reducing reliance on its flagship Jebel Ali hub, and creating an alternative trade route that bypasses the Strait of Hormuz, according to a report by the Financial Times.
The Dubai-based port operator is in talks to develop a brand new multipurpose port in the coastal area of Fujairah and a new terminal at the existing harbour in the emirate, the newspaper added, citing people familiar with the matter.
