Plaque unveiling and opening ceremony
China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited (CSSC) marked the official opening of its Greece Representative Office in Athens with a record order for 12 VLCCs signed with Greek shipping giant Dynacom.
The office’s name plaque was jointly unveiled by Mr. Fang Qiu, Chinese Ambassador to Greece, Ms. Jia Haiying, Vice President and Board Member of CSSC, Mr. Gu Pengcheng, Deputy Director of Marketing & International Dept. of CSSC, and Mr. Han Jianbing, President of CSTC, marking the official opening of the office. More than 70 guests from Greek shipping companies, Chinese enterprises in Greece, classification societies, and other maritime partners witnessed the ceremony.
Record order: icing on the cake
On the same occasion – just ahead of the official opening – CSTC and Hudong-Zhonghua signed shipbuilding contracts with Dynacom for the 12 VLCCs. The signing ceremony was witnessed by Mr. George Procopiou, Founder of Dynacom, Mr. Manos Migadis, Newbuilding Director of Dynacom, Ms. Li Ying, Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Greece, and representatives from CSSC, Hudong-Zhonghua, CSTC, and WinGD. Moreover, part of the installments of this project will be settled in RMB, achieving a breakthrough in dual-currency settlement of "RMB+USD" and providing a new solution to the internationalization of RMB. This landmark order not only celebrates the new office’s launch but also lays a solid foundation for its future development.
Strategic role of the new office
The Greece Representative Office, led and managed by CSTC, is a strategic move to strengthen CSSC’s presence in the high-end European maritime market. Greece, as one of the world’s most influential shipping nations, has long been a key partner for CSSC. The office will serve as a permanent platform for market development, client relationship management, full-industry-chain collaboration covering design, construction, equipment, financing, and after-sales services.
