On the sidelines of his foreign tour in Greece, Lieutenant General Osama Rabie, Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority, and Mr. Panos Xenokostas, CEO of ONEX Shipyard, one of the largest Greek shipyards, discussed ways of cooperation in the areas of joint manufacturing, training, and converting ships to operate on clean fuel.
The meeting was attended by Mr. Veron Vassiliadis, Chairman of the V Group, owner of Antipollution, and a high-level delegation from ONEX Shipyard, including the Head of Logistics and the Financial Director of the Greek shipyard.
The visit included a tour by the team of the Greek ONEX shipyard facilities, including various workshops, technical training centers, maintenance docks, construction yards, and others.
The head of the authority also learned about the shipyard’s activity in building and manufacturing various marine units, and the technology used in the field of construction and converting ships and marine units to operate on clean fuel in addition to traditional fuel.
The head of the authority stressed that the Suez Canal has taken great steps towards developing and modernizing the work system in its shipyards to maximize the benefit from its unique geographical location and the human and material resources it possesses by strengthening the partnership with major international shipyards and exchanging experiences in the fields of building and repairing ships and various marine units.
This came on the sidelines of the participation of Lieutenant General Osama Rabie, Chairman of the Authority, in the opening activities of the 14th Arab-Greek Economic Forum, which is organized by the Arab-Greek Chamber over two days, in the capital Athens.
The forum's activities included attending the opening session entitled "Prospects for Future Arab-Greek Cooperation in the Construction Sector," followed by bilateral talks with officials from a number of Arab and Greek companies. During the session, Lieutenant General Rabie reviewed the capabilities and potential of the Suez Canal Authority's affiliated companies in the fields of construction, building, and infrastructure projects, and emphasized the extensive experience of the Authority's companies in marine infrastructure works, port works, and docks.
The head of the authority pointed to the development witnessed in the past period in the activities of the companies affiliated with the authority and the expansion of their work to implement many infrastructure projects in a number of Arab and African countries.
Lieutenant General Rabie expressed his eagerness to explore future cooperation opportunities with Arab and Greek companies and to benefit from the potential for achieving common interests through such cooperation, emphasizing the readiness of the Authority's affiliated companies to participate in implementing various infrastructure projects outside of Egypt.
During his speech at the opening events of the forum, Ambassador Omar Amer, the Egyptian Ambassador to Greece, expressed his appreciation for the promising opportunities the forum offers to enhance the partnership between Arab countries and Greece.
Ambassador Amer explained that the strategic partnership between the Suez Canal Authority and the Greek V Group through Anti Pollution Egypt is one of the leading successful models of Egyptian-Greek cooperation.
The Egyptian Ambassador to Greece emphasized the pivotal role of the Suez Canal in supporting trade between East and West and ensuring the sustainability and stability of global supply chains. He praised the efforts made by the Suez Canal Authority to restore major shipping lines to cross the Red Sea region once again, appreciating the proactive steps taken by the Authority to gradually recover from the repercussions of the Red Sea crisis and work to restore navigation in the canal to its normal rates.
