The Saudi Ports Authority “Mawani” has announced the addition of three new shipping services operated by Maersk to Jeddah Islamic Port and King Abdullah Port. This move strengthens the Kingdom’s ports as a key hub for maritime trade and enhances their competitiveness at both regional and global levels.
The new services will connect Jeddah Islamic Port with four regional and international ports -Nhava Sheva and Mundra in India, Salalah in Oman, and King Abdullah Port -before returning to Jeddah Islamic Port, with a total capacity of up to 14,400 TEUs.
This initiative forms part of Mawani’s ongoing efforts to improve the Kingdom’s standing in global performance indicators, support international trade flows and national exports, and advance the objectives of the National Transport and Logistics Strategy. It aligns with the goal of positioning Saudi Arabia as a global logistics hub and a key link connecting three continents.
It is worth noting that Jeddah Islamic Port features 62 multi-purpose berths, a logistics park for warehousing and re-export, and a direct truck transfer system to and from the port. It also includes a number of specialized terminals and advanced facilities, such as two container terminals and dedicated marine service berths, with a total handling capacity of up to 130 million tons.
